In order to follow the situation more closely, this zoom-able map will be sticky here in this thread and updated as often as possible.

You can zoom on the lebanese borders and check out the situation there.

lebanon system is not something to be proud of
we are not comparing lebanon with others

as for corruption, Syria was corrupted to the bone

i don't blame the Assad family , I blame the populations of the Middle East and their religion .....it's a disease they have been inflicted with for millenniums

hafez maybe did a better job for syrian given the limited resources , most likely he did a lot of good things
was there oppression and corruption,,,,,of course

Las for cia and others, they can't do much unless he indigenous population is structurally corrupt and sectarian. , like we are in Lebanon

sectarianism was imposed on the Syrians, it is not them ... corruption exists everywhere in the world even in 1st world countries however, the number of corrupt is limited.
in IRAQ there was 100 candidate for 1 chair for presidency .. this gives you an idea of how many people are selfish and corrupt and want power .... now if you take a closer look to the Syrian war and its chronological events ... you do realize the number of opposition parties and the number of people asking for power, how many of them are in military uniform ?! ... very few maybe two ... all others are in tuxedos

The problem is that the united states have inflicted in our sub-conscious that every country not ruled by a democratic system is evil and that is not true !! well democracy has knocked Syria's door and opened it wide open !! .... believe it or not .. what you saw from 2011 - 2014 is a form of democracy, everyone gets to do what they want ... and you ended up with what ?! ... CHAOS !!

Oppression ? oppression of what really ?! lesh in Lebanon mafi oppression ?! someone was very upset, he insulted the president and the next day he was thrown in jail ?! isn't that oppression ?!
when you go to park your car and someone comes and tells you mamnou3 then you look around and you see a mafia of Parking lots ... increasing each year from 1000 - 1500 - 2500 - 3000 LL and even more, isn't that oppression ?!

Hanna, If you want to hate Baath or Syria or Assad fine by me, but hate them from a 1990 events point of view not other points of view. We live in a retarded society and we have no brotherhood nor real belonging and belief in our country and that's why whenever one Arab country is surrounded, sanctioned and bashed by the west, what do we do ?! we stand and watch and worse we ride the wave of the west and we start bashing our sister country too ....what we don't realize though, is when our turn comes, others will do that to us and the domino effect continues.

Just look at the archives of events since the start of the Arab spring up till now, the days of what you call DICTATORSHIPS were much better than the HELL OF DEMOCRACY we're living in now.
