Tension in Kano over killing of pastor’s wife
— 4th June 2016

FROM DESMOND MGBOH, KANO

AN uneasy calm, Friday, reigned in Kano State following the alleged murder of a pastor’s wife, Mrs. Bridget Agbaheme by a mob of religious extremists, who accused her of defaming the Islamic religion.

Late Mrs. Bridget Agbaheme, a mother of one, was married to Pastor Mike Agbaheme, a senior pastor with Deeper Life Bible Church in the state in 1982. The deceased family hails from Orodo village in Mbaitolu Local Government area of Imo State.

Saturday Sun learnt that following the tension that pervaded the area, many Christians stayed indoors or limited their movements to seemingly volatile areas as fear persists that the extremists may be up to something else.

In the light of the above, the Joint Security Task Force (JTF) in the state, in a bid to reinstate public confidence, deployed armoured carriers vehicles and over 30 pickup vans filled with security officers, personnel who patrolled the city capital in the morning hours.

Kano State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has decried the killing and the circumstance leading to the pastor’s wife’s death. They held an emergency meeting, but would make their position public in due course.

Saturday Sun also gathered that the leader of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor Kumuyi has requested for details of the incident.

An emergency meeting of the Imo Community Association was going on somewhere in Sabon -Garri Area of the state as at Press time while the Chairman of the Igbo Community Association, Chief Eni Michael has described the death as barbaric and “most painful to every Igbo man and woman in the state”.

Most of the Yoruba has left Islam for evangelism , especially the new generations
That state is 100% Yoruba and yet that governor won't be able to impose his satanic antics . Nor the clerics

The Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has denied claims that he is behind the hijab crisis rocking the education sector in the state.

“Let me say this there is no official pronouncement on hijab. I have not ordered the use of hijab in schools and I challenge them to bring evidence,” Aregbesola said during a roundtable on developing collaborative framework for education organised by the Development and Advancement in Western Nigeria.

“It might interest you that my wife does not use hijab, my daughter does not use hijab. So, I did not order the use of hijab.

“My view on Islam is why I am suffering unmerited persecution. My crime is that I struggle to be a good Muslim and not because I hurt anybody.”

    Celebrating idiocy

The governor insisted that there was no crisis in the state’s education sector and accused the media of celebrating idiocy by focusing on the decision of some “misguided students” of Baptist High School to wear church garments to school.

He said it was wrong for any religious body to claim the ownership of any public school in the state as government took over the schools about 41 years ago.

The governor also said it was not true that schools founded by Muslim were merged with schools established by Christian missionaries.

He explained that the hijab crisis started in 2012 when four Muslim students were prevented from using hijab after they were transferred to Baptist High School from a school where they were allowed to use hijab.

    Muslim clerics storm schools

Meanwhile, some Muslim clerics stormed some public schools in Osogbo on Monday, insisting that female Muslim students should be allowed to wear hijab to the schools in accordance with the judgment of the Osun State High Court.

Our correspondent gathered that the clerics went to St. Charles’ High School and Ife Oluwa Middle School early in the morning but the teachers told them it would take a directive from the Ministry of Education for that to happen.

“Some Muslims came this morning and said they wanted to enforce the use of hijab. We explained to them that we will allow our students to wear hijab whenever we get instruction from the state government to do so,” the Principal of St. Charles’ High School, Mr. Anthony Famoriyo, said.

“You know that everything we do in schools follows procedure; what you teach, the way you teach. We are not against any group. We are here to teach our children and that is our mission.”

The 42 year-old mother of seven, Mrs. Eunice Elisha, was a deaconess at the Divine Touch parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, (RCCG) Old NEPA Road, Phase 4, Kubwa. She had gone out to evangelize along Gbazango-West area of Kubwa on Saturday moring, July 9, when she was hacked to death by unknown assailants suspected to be extremists. Her body was discovered by the residents who alerted the police and evacuated her to the police station where her husband went to identify her. The husband of the deceased, Pastor Olawale Elisha who is still in shock over the murder of his wife told journalists that his wife had gone out to preach in the neighbourhood at about 5 am only for him to hear the report of her murder. However, the killing of Mrs. Eunice Elisha has sparked outrage among the Christian populist who have described the killing of the female preacher as a crime against Christians. While others accused those behind the killing of the preacher of trying to instigate crisis between Christians and Muslims.

Muslims attack Catholic church on Friday, casualties recorded Dokunola 1 hour ago 63333 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Send email – Muslim youths reportedly carried out said act after the Jumat prayer – Sources say the church’s security man was beaten to a pulp – Attack comes barely one week after Redeemed pastor’s wife lost her life in gruesome murder Some youths were said to have attacked a Catholic church in Niger state on Friday, with the excuse that ‘Friday belongs to them’. According to Daily Post, the youths laid siege on St. Philip’s Catholic Parish, Baki Iku, not so far from Zuma Rock in the state, and eyewitnesses reported that the Catholics had gone to church for prayers when the incident occurred. It was gathered that the Muslims laid claim on Friday as their day of worship, noting that the Christians were only allowed to worship on Sundays after which they (Muslims) destroyed the church’s properties. A source disclosed that, “although some soldiers managed to get there but a lot of harm had been done to the building, while the Christians ran away in different directions to avoid being killed.” The Vicar-General of the diocese, Rev (Fr) Luka Sylvester Gopep, also confirmed the incident, saying: “Sometime around 2pm, some Muslim youths in their hundreds left their Mosque after their Friday Jumat prayer and rushed to the Church premises, climbed the wall and destroyed everything in the Church: the windows, the alter, musical instruments, the chapel. “The security man in the church premises was beaten to pulp. Some women who were holding a prayer meeting were chased away. The seminarian who is resident in the premises was also beaten up and chased away.” This incident is likely to irk Christians all over the country again as recently, a pastor’w wife, Mrs Eunice Olawale Elisha, was murdered in cold blood by some Muslims in Kubwa area of Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital, for reportedly preaching in their area. Christians were after the incident, asked to protect themselves as the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) described the recent killing of Christians as brutal and unacceptable, adding: “authority’s inaction is becoming unbearable and may not be tolerated anymore.” NAIJ.COM HOME PAGE THINK IT IS IMPORTANT

They are killing Christians on dual basis there
In the last few days, the violence took a worsening tour
They boiled 9 Christians and chipped one pastor

The Christian Association of Nigeria in the north has summoned an emergency meeting over Monday’s killings of eight persons in Talata-Mafara community in Zamfara State and the death of a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Luka Ubangari, by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Unguwan Anjo, Kaduna State.

The meeting is being called as an islamic organisation, Nasrul-Lahi-il Fathi, also condemned the killings.

The Northern CAN, in an interview with The PUNCH, said it summoned the emergency meeting to discuss the incidents and the failure of government to bring the perpetrators to book. The meeting is expected to hold in Maiduguri on August 26.

Eight people were killed on Monday, when a mob set the house of a man ablaze for rescuing an undergraduate, who was accused of blasphemy. Also on Monday, gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen killed three persons, including Ubangari, at Unguwan Anjo in the Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

CAN said the failure of the government to punish the perpetrators would mean collaboration between government agencies and Islamic extremists.

The Borno State Chairman of CAN and spokesperson for the 19 northern states’ CAN chairmen, Bishop Abubakar Naga, stated this on Tuesday while answering an enquiry by The PUNCH.

He said Christians would resist any plan to Islamise the country under any guise.

He said, “Islamisation of Nigeria is not possible. Christians will never allow that, Nigeria is a secular country and no religion will dominate others.

“Christians have become targets of attacks. So, we are having an emergency meeting in Maiduguri on August 26.

“The government must take action and if it does not take any action, it means there is collaboration between the government and the perpetrators of the killings.”

    what i dont get
is how did these hausa illiterates read what he wrote ??
last time these hausa tried such viuolence in lagos, they were burned by the 100s
    pity the police stepped in

There was confusion on Sunday in the Ketu area of Lagos State after some Hausa youths seized a chemist, identified as Emmanuel Emeka.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Emeka would have been lynched but for the intervention of policemen from the Ketu Police Division who quickly brought the situation under control.

A source told our correspondent that the victim had written a blasphemous word on a magazine, which triggered the anger of the youths.

The source said the police had already taken custody of the victim to save his life.

He added that the Hausa youths mobilised to destroy the victim’s shop, but were prevented by the policemen, who were deployed in the area.

He said, “It happened around 9pm on Sunday. The issue could have led to a bloody fight between Christians and Muslims in Ketu, but for the police.

“What happened was that the man wrote something on a magazine which the Hausa youths said was blasphemous. When other Hausa men saw it, they became angry and seized him.

    so similar to lebanon
they rob us, under islam name,
they are rich while their people are left to rotten

ONCE again, a Northern leader issued a familiar query to his peers from the Niger Delta: what have you done with the money “channelled” to the region over the years? Hardly does a major political leader from that zone pass up the opportunity to issue this query, especially in addressing issues of resource control or demands from militant groups and other agitators for the development of the heavily-polluted oil producing areas of the country.
This time, it was Aminu Masari, the Governor of Katsina State and a former Speaker of the House of Representatives bestriding the self-assigned magisterial podium. He was granting an interview to The Interview, a monthly magazine. Masari oscillated between preening patronisingly as to how the House of Representatives under his watch was “friendly” to the Niger Delta and how former President Goodluck Jonathan failed to develop his home region. He tasked the Federal Government to publish an account of all the funds that went to the Niger Delta since the 13 per cent derivation principle became operational in 1999. At about the same period, the media quoted the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, as disclosing that $40 billion (forty billion US Dollars) has accrued to the oil producing states (which are generically referred to as “the Niger Delta States” under the law.

the traditional ruler of Seimbiri Kingdom, HRM Charles Ayemi-Botu and retired Major General Don Idada Ikponmwen, asked Masari and his fellow Arewa nosey parkers to tell the nation what they have done with 40 years of political leadership “channelled” to them. What has been the effect on ordinary Northerners and Nigeria as a whole?
I add my own question: what has the North done with its own billions which it unilaterally allocated, just as it liked, through censuses, creation of states and local governments and the sharing of federal electoral constituencies? Through these, the North zaps the oil-fed Federation Account every month based on “population” and landmass which were also used as the criteria for the creation of states and local governments. All these were done under Northern military rulers. In spite of this, the North remains the most underdeveloped in most areas of the human development index as evident in all available statistics, particularly in education, health, rural development and the welfare of the girl child. The North is also the most violent part of the country due to wrong religious orientation which appears to encourage intolerance. On the other hand, the top echelon of the Northern society is the most affluent in the country.
The emirs and titled men live in heaven on earth, usually off the oil wealth of the Niger Delta; while the common people toil all over the country as shoe shiners, farmers, petty traders, artisans, water vendors, gate men (maigad) herdsmen for the big Alhajis and ready to tackle any job that locals look down on. Some of the cities in the North are more beautifully appointed than most cities in the South because they are the abodes of the ruling class, while the rural areas are dumpsites of destitution.

for the past week they have killed over 1000 christian,s destroyed over 20 churches and countless homes
and than these bastards turn and ask for the arrest of the victims

KADUNA—The Council of Imams and Ulama, Kaduna State, has called for the arrest of Senator representing Southern Kaduna Senatorial Zone, Senator Danjuma La’ah; President, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Dr. Samson Ayokunle, and the President of Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, SOKAPU, Dr. Musa Solomon, among others, for what it said were their inflammatory comments over Southern Kaduna killings. However, Senator Laah responded promptly, saying the call for his arrest and others by the Imans and Ulama of Kaduna State was a ploy to cover their (Ulamas) fear and shame resulting from the cruelty meted out to Southern Kaduna people by those they mentored. On his part, Second Republic lawmaker, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, accused the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration and Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State of not doing enough to put an end to the killings in Southern Kaduna. As for the council of Imans and Ulamas, it made the call, at a briefing by the Chairman and Secretary General, Sheikh Abubakar Babantune, and Yusuf Arrigasiyyu, respectively, in Kaduna, yesterday. They said: “In the last one year or so, Kaduna State has not been in peace resulting from the activities of some mischief-makers and the reckless utterances of southern Kaduna political and religious leaders. “Several news reports credited to southern Kaduna political and religious leaders, urged their people to take up arms to defend themselves and nothing was done to prevent its occurrence until the worse had happened. “Thus, the situation degenera-ted into the senseless and merciless massacre of Hausa/Fulani Muslims in that area.
