A lot of Lebanese want us to follow what the US wants from Lebanon saying we shouldn't threaten our relations with them, but what exactly has the US done for us? The only thing America cares about in this region is oil and Israel's security.

This is such a stupid and ignorant thing to say. And everyone is just parroting this nonsense. Is this an American contribution?

No one craves a currency because it is American or Nicaraguan. People crave for money because it is a store of value. If it happens today that the USD is widely acceptable or used, it doesn't mean if in the future the USD is replaced people would hold on to it out of love. You're expressing your claim as if people hold on to a currency based on love or as if the US is issuing dollar notes to people for free.

Besides, when people have money, it is compensation for their labor and efforts. It isn't charity the US is doing to anyone by printing its own currency. In reality, there is not enough gold in US possession to back up every printed USD. And if other countries are to liquidate all the foreign reserve of USD they have, the USD becomes nothing. Another currency could emerge, or gold coins with physical value could replace the USD.

So when we use the USD and when our efforts and labor are rewarded in USD, we are the ones giving value to a currency and not the other way round. If enough people and countries stop using the USD, it will lose value eventually. If oil producing countries stop using the USD or stop accepting payments in USD and the era of the petrodollars comes to an end, another currency will emerge.

The US hasn't done much for us. Which in a way is all what we should be contented with.
For us, the little country, the only thing we need the US to do for us is to not t7outt rassa bi rassna and decides purposely to harm us.

Suspicious timing for such a thread considering @CrusaderV just announced he's taking a break from the forum. Who is going to stand up to your BS and list the Crusader USA achievements now. Not cool RH, not cool. :cigar:

    Neither ordered, nor comprehensive.

-Support resolutions 1559 and 1701 -- which led to removal of Syrian occupation forces from the country and deployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces at the southern border for the first time in decades.
-Provide training, weapons, ammunition, and other military aid to the LAF annually. US support was instrumental in defeating Fateh al-Islam (whom Nasrallah declared as red line) and ISIL.
-Military aid extended to ISF following 2006 war.
-Annual monetary aid to the Lebanese government, to the tune of $400+ Billions since 1975.
-Support for AUB & LAU: budget assistance and student scholarships.
-Support Lebanese politicians concerned with sovereignty and security of this country, and sanctions those who sold the country to Iran and seek to turn it into a pile of rubble a la Iraq, Syria, Yemen.
    -USAid - NGO support.
-US provides opportunities to Lebanese students (and others) who seek a better life outside the shithole Hizbullah turned this country into.

Lastly, allying with US allows Lebanon to be part of the international community, as opposed to a pariah state sponsor of terrorism. To these people who want to emulate Iran so bad (and to the smart cookies who follow them), Venezuela is the wealthiest nation in terms of oil, yet people are starving over there. You think a country that doesn't even produce the food it eats will be able to compete with that? Hah.

America doesn’t need the oil, as it is now energy independent. As for Israel, let’s be real, without America protecting it, the Arabs would have pushed the Jews into the sea. There has to be some sort of opposing force of justice in the world, and America has earned it due to its sheer power.

On top of that, America has donated billions upon billions of dollars in human development projects, and of course, they are the main funders of the UN. They’ve already pledged billions to be used to fight coronavirus, even though it happened in China, and fueled by Iranian incompetence. And some people want those bozos to be the world powers, lulz.

Blame Rafik Hariri for making us too dependent on the dollar. I never got it. Even the franc would have made more sense given our historic ties to France.
And I am not saying we should cut our ties with the US, but we are too dependent on them.

The US is not "one entity". The whole thread and the responses don't make any sense.

We shouldn't be bullied by anyone, including Iran, Saudi, Israel, etc... but unfortunately Lebanese folks have a huge identity crises that in today's Lebanon everyone is pro something (and this has been going on pre civil war). whatever happened to just being Lebanese and having our own sovereignty for a change?

Inti serteh el spokesperson la Mr Qu7?

You only have a dependency if you allow yourself to depend on someone or something. The more people use the USD, the more value it gets. The less people, the less value. The very reason the US would want to sustain the petrodollar and ensure another currency doesn't replace the USD for oil transaction. If entire nations start dumping the use of the USD, it is bad news for America first and foremost. For the fact that Lebanese people are so used to the USD and American products, it is added value to the USD and the US economy. If the Americans or the Trump administration is stupid and does not like that and they put in place measures or sanctions that would see Lebanese people become less attached to their currency and products and economy, then they would also suffer the fall back, no matter how tiny or little. It will also set a bad precedence.

You can't fight an economic war against all countries of the world when you need the world to give value to your currency. How many countries has Trump used sanctions against as an economic weapon to play politics? Even his own allies in the EU and Turkey have faced that. And if someone behaves this way, it shows one thing: desperation.
