Lol the republic was declared in 1917 by survivors of the genocide and was a land of refuge for many fleeing armenians, what do you mean its not connected to the genocide??

Just gave the wiki article u csn check the sources at least ;)
Obviously bolscheviks didn't want that westerners have a foos set on their southern borders..

During the First World War and in the ensuing peace negotiations in Paris, the Allies had vowed to punish the Turks and reward some, if not all, the eastern provinces of the empire to the nascent Armenian republic.[14] But the Allies were more concerned with concluding the peace treaties with Germany and the other European members of the Central Powers. In matters related to the Near East, the principal powers, Great Britain, France, Italy and the United States, had conflicting interests over the spheres of influence they were to assume. While there were crippling internal disputes between the Allies, and the United States was reluctant to accept a mandate over Armenia,
It was not until August 1920 that the Allies drafted the peace settlement of the Near East, in the form of the Treaty of Sèvres. The United States had refused to assume the Armenian mandate in May of that year, but the Allies delegated the US to draw the western boundaries of the republic. The US allotted four of the six eastern provinces to the Ottoman Empire, including an outlet to the Black Sea. The Treaty of Sèvres served to confirm Kemal's suspicions about Allied plans to partition the empire. According to the historian Richard G. Hovannisian, his decision to order the invasion of Armenia was intended to show the Allies that "the treaty would not be accepted and that there would be no peace until the West was ready to offer new terms in keeping with the principles of the Turkish National Pact."

And volià :))

In late November 1920, there was a Soviet-backed communist uprising in Armenia. On November 28, 1920, blaming Armenia for the invasions of Şərur (20 November) and Karabakh(21 November), the 11th Red Army under the command of Anatoli Gekker crossed the demarcation line between Armenia and Soviet Azerbaijan. The second Soviet-Armenian war lasted a week. Exhausted by the six years of wars and conflicts, the Armenian army and population were incapable of active resistance.

When the Red Army entered Yerevan on December 4, 1920, the government of Armenian Republic effectively surrendered. On December 5, the Armenian Revolutionary Committee (Revkom, consisting mostly of Armenians from Azerbaijan) also entered the city. Finally, on December 6, the Cheka, Felix Dzerzhinsky's dreaded secret police, entered Yerevan. The Soviets took control and Armenia ceased to exist as an independent state.[32] Soon afterward, the communists declared the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic.
AND ALL LIVED HAPPY AFTERWARDS LOL ( history explained for dummies )
Convinced that these heavy-handed tactics were the source of the alienation of the native population to Soviet rule, in 1921 Moscow appointed an experienced administrator, Alexander Miasnikian, to carry out a more moderate policy and one better attuned to Armenian sensibilities. With the introduction of the New Economic Policy (NEP), Armenians began to enjoy a period of relative stability. Life under the Soviet rule proved to be a soothing balm in contrast to the turbulent final years of the Ottoman Empire.[7] The Armenians received medicine, food, as well as other provisions from the central government and extensive literacy reforms were carried out.[8] EXCEPT : The situation was difficult for the Armenian Apostolic Church, however, which became a regular target of criticism in educational books and in the media and struggled greatly under Communism.

    Anastas Mikoyan - Wikipedia
Anastas Ivanovich Mikoyan (English: /miːkoʊˈjɑːn/; 25 November 1895 – 21 October 1978) was a Soviet Armenian revolutionary, Old Bolshevik and statesman during the mandates of Lenin, Stalin, Khrushchev and Brezhnev. He was the only Soviet politician who managed to remain at the highest levels of power within the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, as that power oscillated between the Central Committee and the Politburo, from the latter days of Lenin's rule, throughout the eras of Stalin and Khrushchev, until his peaceful retirement after the first months of Brezhnev's rule.

Mikoyan became an early convert to the Bolshevik cause. He was a strong supporter of Stalin during the immediate post-Lenin years. During Stalin's rule, Mikoyan held several high governmental posts, including that of Minister of Foreign Trade. By the end of Stalin's rule, Mikoyan began to lose favour with him, and in 1949, Mikoyan lost his long-standing post of minister of foreign trade. In October 1952 at the 19th Party CongressStalin even attacked Mikoyan viciously. When Stalin died in 1953, Mikoyan again took a leading role in policy-making. He backed Khrushchev and his de-Stalinization policy and became First Deputy Premier under Khrushchev. Mikoyan's position under Khrushchev made him the second most powerful figure in the Soviet Union at the time.

Mikoyan made several key trips to communist Cuba and to the United States, acquiring an important stature on the international diplomatic scene, especially with his skill in exercising soft power to further Soviet interests. In 1964 Khrushchev was forced to step down in a coup that brought Brezhnev to power. Mikoyan served as Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet, the nominal Head of State, from 1964 until his forced retirement in 1965.
    On a side note :
Mikoyan received his education at the Nersisian School in Tiflis and the Gevorgian Seminary in Vagharshapat (Echmiadzin), both affiliated with the Armenian Apostolic Church.[2]Religion, however, played an increasingly insignificant role in his life. He would later remark that his continued studies in theology drew him closer to atheism: "I had a very clear feeling that I didn't believe in God and that I had in fact received a certificate in materialist uncertainty; the more I studied religious subjects, the less I believed in God." Before becoming active in politics Mikoyan had already dabbled in the study of liberalism and socialism.

@Iron Maiden u as many in lebanon , does not know that the one of the main founders of lebanese communist party was an armenian refugee :

Artin Madoyan (born April 10, 1904 in Adana[1]) was a Lebanese-Armenian communist politician. He was the most prominent Armenian leader of the Lebanese Communist Party.

In the summer of 1922 Madoyan moved to Beirut, where his family had sought refuge.[1] In 1922 the Huntchag Social Democratic Students Union set up a branch in Beirut with Madoyan as its secretary.[1] In 1923 the Huntchag Students Union branch was dissolved as Madoyan and Haykazun Boyadian founded the Armenian communist organization Spartak Youth.[6][7] The organization maintained links with the Armenian Communist Party and the French Communist Party.[6] It consisted of workers and students and had some fifteen members in Beirut as well as cells in Aleppo, Alexandretta, Mosul and Zahle.[6] Madoyan was the general secretary of Spartak. In 1925 Spartak merged with the Lebanese People's Party, forming the Syrian-Lebanese Communist Party. Madoyan was one of the six members of the first Central Committee of the party.[7] At the time Madoyan was a medical student at Université Saint-Joseph.

I dont really know why newZeelanders are so vested in this cause, but the more the better!

    Episode 1: Armenians
The Anzac from Australia and New Zealand were fighting the Turks at Gallipoli and they witnessed the genocide. They tried to help the Armenians as much as they could.

Wow. I don't think I've ever seen Adam Schiff this affected. I have to admit I was distracted by the pronunciation "tchaldeans" though...staffer fail. Someone should've googled that.

US House of Representatives passes a non-binding resolution recognizing the Armenian genocide for the first time ever, with an overwhelming majority.

Who were the 9 who did not recognize it? Seriously!

Oh for sure. Wasn't detracting from it. Such a heartfelt speech. And he's not one for frivolous emotional messages. He means it. I was just curious. Now I see it captures parts of Glendale in his district :)

I know. For most of them it's a way to get back at Turkey / Trump. But a few like Rep. Schiff have been working to make this happen for decades.

Of course they're cynical. But you take political openings where you can get them. Even if it's nkeyeh bi trump for half of them. Obama promised this and reneged.
