Quick few differences:

-The Papacy's role of course
-Purgatory ( a place before going to heaven for thosecwho commit "forgiven sins after death" vs. Only you either go to Heaven or Hell after death
-Sola Scriptura (bible authority only) vs. Church teachings and Traditions
-Mary's role and the Saints
-Eucharistic ( true transformation to body and blood of Christ) vs. Symbolic Last Supper
- Saved by Faith alone vs. Work

Someone in the Pope's inner circle is trying to tarnish his image? Wala Francis simply appreciates beauty? :cigar:

the most important difference as far as theology is concerned falls under the "sola scriptura" principle adopted by protestants. now while opposing the travesties of the papacy at the time was very justified, some of the measures they have adopted is not. they astray when they attempted to guard against the human condition by consolidating all authority in the scripture without to completely eliminate the human role and influence.

by so doing, they themselves fell victims to their human nature and shortcomings, and though they were right in protesting and rising against a corrupt central church at the time, the spirit of the conflict raged stronger than that of the reform, and they broke some of the very important messages that the new testament delivers: the role of the Holy Spirit in teaching and guiding, and the transition from the letter to the Spirit; the tenants that freed us from the countless books of the Law, and restored the arbiter and the choice to the mind and the heart of the person in a transition towards higher norms for right and wrong, good and evil.

these two notions make the difference between the rigid and dry religious perspective and between growing in wisdom and understanding as our faculties develop. this is why in many aspects there is a close resemblance in the constituents of religious perception between protestants, jews, and muslims. in concrete a example this is the reason why many protestant congregations in the usa in particular believe that jews are literally the chosen people of God, and they hold them above everyone else and even themselves in stature, a point that israel is an expert in exploiting to salvage the support of the USA where a huge chunk of evangelicals are looking forward and even enabling the conditions that could give rise to the so called armagedon that in their rigid understanding will signal the second coming of Christ.

this also is why it may rather be difficult for people hailing from these backgrounds to understand and tap into the different perception of the Divine at the foundation of Catholic and Orthodox theology, and that despite their major conflicts, protestants, jews and muslims adopt almost the same methodologies each on their respective scriptures.

"for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life."
