Hi @Jo :)

Is there a way for you to specify what kind of ads you allow on the forum, or do they give you no control over it?

If the former, could you block ads that are sexual in nature? Some of them are disgusting and pornography like, both in image and text.

Thanks!

The forum displays ads according to your preferences and Google searches.
Do you have horny teenagers in your family?
If they're using the same IP, they could still affect your ad results, if I'm not mistaken.

In short, someone is watching porn in your Catholic God-fearing house. :p

Only if they have no other data to go on. Meaning you explicitly denied google ads access. All cookies based in general... resetting tokens, not signing in on chrome, android data....all plays a part in the equation

    Cant escape it

    Tl;dr
Ads are bought by online companies through bidding, if nobody wants to buy ads on the forum most likely som porn site who is bidding 1 cents fir his ads will win the bid, hence you will see porn/hook up ads displayed.

So the best way to get rid if those ads is by making the forum attractive to bidders. But since the forum is if a political/non-pc nature, i’d say just enjoy ur porn ?

First, the ads are linked to your device history, not the history of everyone in the house. But even if that wasn't the case, neither I or anyone else is watching pornography. I have full access to all computers / devices in the house.

Second, I haven't been getting such ads for a very long time, but one has been repeatedly appearing this past week, and it's annoying, hence my inquiry. And no, I haven't googled anything remotely related to that this past week either.

I just figured out where the ad is coming from. It just appeared again the the homosexuality thread. So it's actually related to the forum topics / activity themselves.

Pretty sure the forumers with an unhealthy obsession with the clergy abuse topic are not helping either.

Anyway...got a tip from a forumer earlier, if anyone is interest: click on the arrow on the right corner of the ad and it will give you options not to see it anymore.

    Hey,

True. Google ads are displayed based on your personal interest/search history or the actual content of the page you are browsing.

Technically I can block these kinds of ads yes.

i've had this problem as well, mainly with ali-express and some other online sellers, they carry out a variety of product categories including some it seems of a sexual nature, and google brings up their add as an image displaying many categories and items, often times including many things of explicit sexual nature. so yes it is relatively about the browsing history as i have purchased hundreds if not thousands of items from aliexpress, but the explicit images displayed in their add are not related to the purchased products.

this is a sample of how some of the ads are targeted, for instance these ads on tayyar.org, i have used alibaba.com to purchase several things, yet none of them relates to what is being advertised

in the next iteration the items advertised changed to the following:
    1567500011041.png

now here is the thing, none of the items above relate to anything i have purchased or searched for on aliexpress or alibaba, or pretty much anywhere else. i do not own motorcycles, i do not run searches for them, same goes for scooters, dish receivers, rainbow dresses, ovens or whatever that thing is.

so what happens is that google allocates the ad space to alibaba because you have visited the site and done business with them, alibaba fills it with whatever it wants to advertise, not necessarily based on your own personalized data they keep on their records because it has no access to that since you are not logged into your own account, and google does not pass information such as your user email to third parties, and sometimes these can result in ads for explicitly sexual products, like dildos and other things.

the above was one scenario, but if you want to put the intelligence of google's algorithms to the test, this is one of the ads i am currently being targeted with on the oroom. pretty smart eh?
