Two POVs:
1-Geagea improved the management of East Beirut, ruled with an iron-fist waiting for Partition but ultimately couldn't control his militia's wrongdoing and ended up paying for it.
2-Geagea is a cold-blooded murderer and his era is a complete disaster.

Public transport , the clinics satellite and grocery co-op were for everyone. Subsidized housing was available to LFers only. LF was collecting taxes so they had to make lots of services available to the resident of the free zone. Taxes imposed on all real estate transactions, imports exports, Cement trucks, restaurants and night clubs. They controlled the sea port that was a good source of revenue. Syrian taxis were made to pay ex amount for entering the free zone in retaliation of taxes imposed by the Syrian government on Lebanese cars crossing the boarder.
It was not well run, it was not run at all... LF used to collect khouwet. They pretty much did as they pleased. For example at one point they stored weapons in abandoned depots in the building we lived in, 2emit 2iyemit the residents... they didn’t care. Someone had to contact an LF official they knew to get them moved. It wasnt soviet either... i was life with a mafia
