Hassan Diab Government [IMF Negotiations Officially Underway]

Take your weapons and buy some diapers and cooking oil with them!

Or you have the Satan green money flowing directly from Iran!

I can understand the average HA member; he saw his salary jumping from 1,500,000 L.L. to around 7,000,000 L.L. not even a bank manager get 7 millions L.L. in Lebanon.

The rest of us are getting are either jobless or getting half salaries...

Mean while the average Lebanese are selling the belonging to buy cooking oil and milk for his children; I don't think he care much of an Israeli invasion.

Some are probably wishing for an Israeli invasion right now; same as southerners welcomed the Israeli invaders in the 80s!

HA by fighting the revolution and protecting the corrupt is being seen as an evil entity by most of the Lebanese.

I think you are either ignorant or silly. If a handful of southerners welcomed the Israehellis out of frustration with the Palestinians and ignorance, does that give you the right to generalize like a bigot?

There would be time for everything. Dont disturb yourself.

WASHINGTON: International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said Friday she does not yet have reason to see a breakthrough in negotiations with Lebanon to help resolve the country's economic crisis.

Georgieva told a Reuters Newsmaker webcast event that IMF officials continue to work with Lebanon, but it is unclear whether the country's leaders, stakeholders and society can unify around reforms needed to stabilize its economy and return it to a growth path.

Lebanon is battling a financial crisis regarded as the biggest threat to the country since its 1975-1990 civil war, with the Lebanese pound losing 75% of its value since October.

Hopes for a quick rescue deal with the IMF have been complicated by a dispute between the government and central bank over the scale of losses in the banking system. Concerns persist, meanwhile, over Prime Minister Hassan Diab's commitment to reforms.

"The core of the issue is whether there can be a unity of purpose in the country that can then carry forward a set of very tough but necessary measures," Georgieva said. "All I can say is that we are putting our best people to work with Lebanon, but we do not yet have a reason to say there is a breakthrough."

Georgieva said Lebanon's situation "breaks my heart" because the country has a strong entrepreneurial culture and has taken in Palestinian and Syrian refugees, helping to ease a major humanitarian crisis.

The entire "moderate Arab" camp or rather the Zionist arab camp are delusional. This delusion was exhibited by their boss, Pompeo himself in his yesterday's press conference. He spoke of helping Lebanon if Hezbollah's control of the Lebanese govt is removed.

I really dont understand how can a foreign secretary of a supposedly democratic country can make such a remark. Hezballah got the highest number of votes in the 2018 parliamentary election. Hezballah's presence in govt and in parliament and in the state and in the country is a decision for the Lebanese people. Hezballah represents a major segment of the Lebanese population. And sidelining or marginalizing Hezballah, which represents a major sect singlehandedly would mean no govt can stand in Lebanon. This is how the system works. You cant tell us we have to undo democratic election results before you can give us economic support. In that case, we do not want your economic support. And since you are making it obvious that our present ordeal is a political orchestration, it would only be a matter of time before we ask your ambassador to leave Lebanon and for you to shut down your embassy. We will not tolerate your blackmail. You can't be telling us to the face that you are starving us and you expect us to tolerate your ambassador going on Lebanese tv to lecture the country on problems you are orchestrating. Why not leave us alone, then? We will find solutions which you dont want to give us.

And after all this, do not think Hezballah will get any less votes if there is an election today. They will even get more votes because we will not accept a foreign coup against our sect as Shia and against our country as Lebanese. When Trump was impeached, even though he was more or less guilty, he was acquitted because you didnt want to undo his election, as disgusting to many Americans as Trump has been. So the likes of the Gmayyel kids who are calling for early election, should know that Hezballah and its allies will win again and again. And even if the allies of Hezballah dont win, Hezballah will continue to be the sole representative of the entire Shia sect and its word will stand. And if you cant work with those who represent us, then you are looking for trouble for yourselves, which will happily be delivered to you and you wont have a place in this country. If you try to undo us by conniving with foreign powers, it would be obligatory upon us to take the initiative and be the ones to undo instead. This foreign orchestration wont succeed. It is an economic war and it would be our duty as Lebanese not to yield or surrender to such a war that is meant to make us kneel. We wont kneel. We will open our @$$ to China and get all the economic aide and investments and we wont yield to America's dictates, the same America with whose weapons the Zionist enemy invaded and occupied and bombed us. America is acting in the interests of our only enemy to the south of our border to impose on us what they couldn't through war. You wont succeed and we wont surrender or be broken and we wont go hungry either. We will rightful give you the middle finger as ever, when you try to fight us. We will stand strong and no internal rogue elements will be allowed to succeed either. We will give you hard knocks on your heads if you try us. If any foreign govt has issues with those who represent us, talk and hold dialogue with our legitimate representatives. Do not blackmail us with your conditions. You will only harden our resolve against you.
Entertain me with your opinion. Suppose I found a party on a noble cause, in order to protect the north with weapons, get funded mainly by a foreign country, suppress any sign of party/sect dissension, hold a monopoly in the elections, allocate funds obtained from within and without to party member's families (hospital, education etc...). Is it normal? Wrong? 50 shades of grey?

What happens if, hypothetically, Chrisitans feel threatened by Syria, unite, FPM and LF, form an alliance, FPM being in the Government and LF arming themselves, forming a resistance, while monopolizing all Christian seats in Lebanon. Oh and they get funded by Russia.

"Who are you to deny them their right for resistance? To spit on their martyrs and their sacrifice!"

You get two "resistances" each with their own self-righteous cause. Each one in a different camp. All equally valid points.

What I'm trying to point out is that noble causes can be a good cover for political compromises and a great tool to portray a sense of legitimacy and democracy, while the "State" as an entity cannot exist because each resistance took part of its power.

Irrespective of foreign policies, Lebanon's problem is an internal one, about power sharing, and if parties are ready to relinquish what they hold so dear to them in order to risk building a good State. Sure that will seem like I'm saying that HA should disarm itself. Maybe not. Maybe it should join the LAF.

But political, civil, legal and economic theories are converge on the absolute need that a unified strong State that has the "monopole" of violence must exist in order for any society to prosper or advance.

Saying otherwise, irrespective of the reasons, will prevent the formation of the State and the equal protection of all citizens.

Food for thought.

Cheers

Ya Rafidi ya habibi, don't take things too personal if someone criticizes HA. Yes I think it is unfair to label all southerners being happy of Israel coming in and occupying territory. A few were but most southerners were not very happy at all especially that Israel decided to occupy the south. I still remember the tales (from friends and relatives) of Israeli patrols in southern Lebanese towns in the 90s breaching people's homes looking for anyone with the resistance. I also remember that we couldn't see our family property because well it was occupied by the IDF and the IDF put so many checkpoints along the way harassing the locals.

However, HA are not immune to criticism. They have become strongly political and now they are protecting corrupt people under the excuse of protecting their arms. They are involved in wars that they shouldn't be in and they are taking decisions autonomously without the state's permission. You say that we don't trust giving the weapons to the army, tayyeb ok keep the weapons but let the state take decisions on foreign policies and focus on fighting corruption instead of hiding behind it.

Is there a problem between Abbass Ibrahim and Riyad Salameh ?

Salameh was neglecting the black market price of dollar while Ibrahim said there is only one market of $!
