I’m wondering if McKinsey say the administration is corrupt - ministries filthy .. what would be the government reaction ?

I do wonder after reading the following article if McKinsey's report itself is immune to political interference.

How McKinsey Lost Its Way in South Africa

When the godfather of management consulting landed its biggest contract ever in Africa, it made the worst mistake in its storied nine-decade history.

JOHANNESBURG — The blackouts kept coming. The state-owned power company, Eskom, was on the verge of insolvency. Maintenance was being deferred. And a major boiler exploded, threatening the national grid.
McKinsey & Company, the godfather of management consulting, thought it could help, but was not sure that it should, according to people involved in the debate. The risk was huge. Could McKinsey fix the problems? Would it get paid? Would it be tainted by South Africa’s rampant political corruption?

Of course not. Specifically McK. Their entire operating model is based on leveraging power politics in companies to push for top down changes that only benefit ... them.

Remember, their former CEO was found guilty of insider trading. They have a broken culture. And I know the firm really well

Lebanon is hiring management consulting firm McKinsey & Co. to help restructure an economy that’s overly reliant on remittances and banking, and grappling with high unemployment, Economy and Trade Minister Raed Khoury said.

The six-month agreement with McKinsey will be signed by the end of this week and the company will start work next week with various ministries and economic bodies to formulate a new economic vision for the Arab world’s most indebted nation, Khoury said in an interview at his office in Beirut on Monday.

“The government has been historically nearly absent in putting policies and procedures to do that,” said the former Barclays Wealth banker and founder of Cedrus Invest Bank. “The first thing we want to do is to identify our economic identity and then go to more specific things.”

With at least three times as many Lebanese living abroad than in Lebanon, the country has been sustained by remittances that have kept flowing in, especially from Lebanese workers in Gulf and African countries.

Banks use the money to buy government debt, which stands at 150 percent of economic output, according to Khoury. That is one of the world’s highest ratios, along with Japan and Greece.

Record Reserves

With foreign reserves at a record $43 billion, the Lebanese currency has been able to survive the political storms that have at various times left Lebanon without a president or prime minister, and the influx of 1.5 million Syrian refugees who have strained its resources.

But this model is “becoming very risky” and no longer sustainable, Khoury said, predicting that if nothing is done, the debt-to-GDP ratio will go as high as 170 percent in the next few years. He said Lebanon should aspire to emulate the economy of Singapore, another small country with many ethnic groups.

Lebanon’s governance has suffered from the legacy of the 1975-1990 civil war, and the country didn’t have a budget for 12 years until parliament passed one in 2017. Even now, with discussions under way over the new budget, not much thought is being given to the impact that decisions, such as imposing taxes, will have on various sectors, he said.

“We’re doing the budget for 2018, you think there is a mentality of a 3-year, 5-year, 10-year plan behind it? Zero,” he said. “It’s not chaos, it’s a culture.”

‘Tricky’

David Butter, associate fellow at Chatham House in London, said such strategic plans “might not do any harm, but in the case of Lebanon it’s a bit more tricky.” McKinsey will have to analyze and quantify various areas including services, financial flows and parallel economies such as the one controlled by the Iranian-backed Hezbollah group, which are hard to quantify, he said.

“You have a lot of gray areas which might be difficult to put into the context of some sort of a strategic plan,” Butter added.

The minister also said overall unemployment in 2014 stood at 24 percent, with rising youth unemployment exceeding 35 percent, the last year for which figures are available at the ministry. Lebanon’s trade deficit was $11.77 billion by September 2017, with exports at $2.12 billion and imports at $13.89 billion.

These figures show that Lebanon has no choice but to restructure its economy, said Khoury. “It’s not a luxury anymore,” he said.

What a complete waste of money, anyone who has worked in consulting and especially for McKinsey or BCG would know this. They probably spent millions of dollars for this work forgetting that we pay these idiotic ministers to come to office already knowing what to do. Again, wasted money and nobody will be held accountable. We need to get our message across and this is going to require real civil resistance. Enough is enough.

Actuality the civil war that was started by Maronite's bigotry ( which is well & alive her) & the violent Murder of Muslims , was the source of the civil war and thus the economic decline - the roots of the civil war was the zionist ethnic cleansing of Palestinians which fueled the Maronite bigotry towards the Palestinians because they were mostly Muslims and the Maronite's fared demographic change , further more the Maronite church was a strong supporter of zionsim which backfired when Zionist ethnically cleansed Palestinians and thus a cures on the Maronites , also Lebanon as Swiss of the Levant " relied on Arab countries such as the gulf , Iraq for its economy ,

Muslim dont want progress ( maybe hariri wants now), for sure shia dont want
they want a milking cow...and of course they have many zhummes from both sides who will do their bidding

your hatred of Muslims shows that you are thinking primitively and certainly dont have any authority to speak about progress , Muslims didn't start the civil war it was the bigotry of ignorant maronites that started the war , the Maronites were also the only party in Lebanon guilty of genocide according to the UN ( and not the Muslim ) .

It was definitely born out of necessity, but then it became part of their vision, hence the external investments.

Doesn't Lebanon have any necessities?
Before they found gas offshore, Lebanon had very few to no resources.
Apart from water and fertile ground, we had nothing but our brains.
We could've easily become a regional authority on hydraulic power generation, water distribution and irrigation if we thought to invest in it. Yet, here we are, we have more water than the whole gulf combined yet we still have shortages.

The bekaa valley is extremely fertile and we could've fed both Lebanon and neighbouring countries.
Yet we're importing fruits and veggies from the gulf who is basically a large desert!

We could've easily invested in high tech seeing that manufacturing requires space and we don't have it, but IT, cybersecurity, web apps, etc require smaller spaces and investments.

I fear that now with the discovery of gas we won't invest in anything else and turn our country's economy to be solely dependent on fossil fuel then end up bankrupt when prices crash like it happened in Nigeria for example.

Foreign powers would've invested heavily if we showed that we're up to the task.
Lebanese diaspora has notable managers in the ranks of multinationals which could've shifted foreign investments to Lebanon rather than Israel, Jordan, Iran, Egypt, Turkey, etc...

The necessity is there, the will isn't.

Saudi has more water then Lebanon

bigotry and violent murder started when mohammaed and his minis invaded our region and started the killing spree
