leh prior to 2005 ke fi houkoume? Ken fi Hariri and his goons robbing the people in addition to whoever is there now, but Hariri was robbing them even more by stealing their land and inflating growth with construction without any manufacturing. There was no vision for investment for future growth, and he pocketed much more then everybody else doubling his wealth.

what has changed?

seriously you're blaming the wazir because he is from a certain party? innou wa22afit 3al wazir? the country's debt is 160% of it GDP, how is that sustainable in the long term, if nothing is done the country will keep paying interest on existing bonds and issue new ones, increasing debt and increasing entertaining the debts this accelerating the amounts. Their only solution is an economical revolution where the borrowing finances investment for a sustainable economic growth. sustainable means beyong constructing a few buildings to inflate the GDP, there is needs to be factories and production with high income that can be taxed by the gov without bankrupting them or government financed programs that bring money, like for example O&G. But with the paralysis and the people we have governing_or not for that matter_ there is no way the money will go for the government, they will steal it and finance project tizfit bill day3a and pocket the remaining 90% so that they can stay in power. The fiasco of the status quo in Lebanese voters will remain the same.
Unless the lebanese throw away all these crooks in government and parliament, yes investors (who are not part of the corruption scheme) should be worried

Insa ; their whole economical model is based on services for Khalijies; once these Khalijies left the model crumbled.

Now all their efforts are focused on bringing them back.

Agriculture; manufactures, IT, education, health kilo ma bita3meh khibiz for the ruling elite.

The only ****s waiting for the khalijes are you muslims. We never wait for the Gulf countries. We have faith in our people buddy. Our expatriates are doing wonders outside and our exports need to go up (which it has). In 2018 we exported 4 billion worth of products. 2-3 years ago 2.2 billion. We need to export more and import less.

The debt can be paid off bit we need the politicians to stop corruption. Stop placing men in jobs who just stay at home and dont work. Litani project is a failure and more money was given to them and the CDR who have been a failure. All these state institutions need to be banned for their failure.

ma tefta7 el dafeteer el 3ta2, I already told you that before 2005, you blamed it on Hafez Al Assad and Rafik el Hariri ... now Hafez Al Assad and Rafik el Hariri are no more, since 2005 until now 10 years have passed and the country going backwards. Each year worse than before due to the never ending Jadal Bizanteh. The only difference is that the christian thieves have restored their cut and regained their prime seat in the council of Ali baba and the 40 thieves. However, the situation of the country as an entity in its surroundings and in its international position has worsened instead of at least stabilizing. true or false ?!

The christians where happy. "we took back what's ours" ... ok, but from the point of view of any sane foreign person, this country is a failed state. a flawed and sabotaged machine that cannot get its parts moving and is not able to sustain its population. The answer is not the law of " A7wel Shakhsieh ", "women's rights" or "who owns the kid in case of divorce" or "shi 7mar 3am yekhoud selfie ma3 kaleb add el fil mish 2eder eysayter 3aleh wou el kaleb 3am bi jerro mish vice-versa wou raye7 bi kel habalo eyjeblo akel min el mall kirmel eybayen 3al instagram enno howeh class wou khiryeh kbeereh "

you have a country in which its governors and in turn the mentality of its people: "mnetdayan la netzayan so that others think that we're something very civilized and advanced" but "hello !!" you debt is so huge, that the world doesn't even want to give you more money. If you don't pull your shit together from within, not with foreign help, you are walking the path of destruction and the ugly path of destruction, the path in which you cannot blame any country for it. Israel will simply build a high wall just like that on the Mexican borders and go butcher yourselves Lebanese like rats on a small piece of meat or what's left of it. and PS: Syria cannot help.

manufacturing is one of the sectors even if paid attention to will not yield or amount to anything at all.
The problem is the mentality of the Lebanese people, "easy quick money, I want easy quick money and after me the flood" <== you cannot build a country, a sovereign, self sufficient one. based on this mentality. unfortunately this mentality is buried deep inside our minds from school days. At one point in time, this worked!! but now you are at the age of the internet and communication, all countries around you have made their contact with outside world and have surpassed you !! they did !! this is a reality we are refusing to admit. they have surpassed us, they don't need us !! ... So keber hal rass baleh !! wallah el 3azeem baleh. We behave as if we are a regional super power, la2 aswa2 an international super power and in reality "addo add el fara wou sawto emalleh el 7ara"

very true this is one side of it. but no one also addressed his earlier act of pride either when he announced that he proudly stopped deir aamar power plant over a questionable 30 million USD in TVA, tallying losses of more than 10 billion dollars on the Lebanese economy.
I do not think the cost of our latest blunder is even close to 10b.

It shouldnt be above 1b. Halla2 the total cost, including Deir Aamar heik ma ba3ref

it is not my number, i am not sure how that is calculated, but at one moment when the bonds declined sharply it was projected that the central bank would have to use about 10 billion dollars from the reserve in order to curve the damage. luckily the bonds regained some value later, but they still did not fully recover from that impact.

the heavier damage is in further staining our reputation as a failed state, which would make further loans significantly more difficult to procure and will also make them much more expensive.

Their aim is to make the state failed under PMA. He is only 2 years in and there is no gov for 8 months. Nearly half his term. Let it burn on everyone.

no government for 8 months ?! you are without a government for more than 10 years !! taking a collective photo doesn't mean you have a government .. even the MP assembly has agreed on laws without the formation of any government !! only laws who are against the people are being agreed on without delay. Habibna wake up it is not about the 3ahed !! you have been on the path of poverty for a long long time !! .. why do we keep evading the main problem !! .. if GMA dies tomorrow, bi koun Allah dod el 3ahed ? blame Allah ? ... how are you different than berri or jumblat or hariri or gemayel or ja3ja3? the problem is elsewhere !!

I can't believe you still cling to a meaningless issue .. so the big question now, is to add more debt or not to ? if we accept more debt means we're cool ?!!
we're only buying time but we will reach the inevitable. the current political system needs to be changed all together !! there's no other solution !!

This is not true, Hariri stole money and there is proof, Aoun is only not allowed to govern because the government is not being allowed to be formed. I don't blame him for anything except that he doesn't just quit, but I am also not sure he should quit and leave the country to those robbers not allowing him to govern, that is exactly what they want. They will just put back the Syrian/Hariri system in place with our without Syria and continue their grand thefts.

It is a failed state first because the people do not want a state, it is their responsibility to stop electing Hariri, Berri and Jumblatt and other thieves. Hariri and Berri are not doing nothing for the people, they are just robbing them. HA seeing that the country doesn't work with these thieves around built a country within a country. Aoun is trying to fix it but it is clear he can't govern with thieves around him, that all leads to it being a failed state, only the people can stop electing those who are the main contributors to making it a failed stated, likes of Hariri, Berri and Jumblatt.

That part I agree with. The people should start looking at themselves as one population instead of a bunch of sects coexisting and living together because that has been Lebanon's problem forever.

Stop beating around the bush, FPM is part of this club, the Ali baba club, maybe not Aoun directly as a person, but the entourage without a doubt according to the sectarian laws that govern Lebanon. Bassil is the star from the FPM, seen as a very slick and pragmatic person by other members of this political system, that I'm sure of it.

La2, the people can't do anything, the state you have in Lebanon is an armed state that has no problem throwing bullets at its own population. This has been confirmed so many times. The only difference between Lebanon and its neighboring Arab countries, who are not also doing well by the way, is that they have one tyrant upon which they can blame everything on. In Lebanon the people are divided between a league of tyrants and this helps those tyrants get away with whatever they do.

The solution to get rid of this league should come from outside (80% chance) or from the inside, the Lebanese army (20% chance) because the new (after 1990) army belongs to the tyrants (the wasta that got them in the army in the first place)

They have elections and they can change if they decide to elect other people, yet they keep electing the same people.

I guess it would be too much to ask for an actual economist or financier to get the position. I would sure hope next time around Berry can at least try to find a thief with these minimal qualifications.
