Point me to where it says so! Mesh l mafroud tkoun sa3be 😂
MEA is part of skyteam and they take flights on behalf of Air france, lufthansa, KLM etc
That’s the cooperation between airlines their statement talks about

rather than subscribing to empty populist speeches, use your brain to think rationally and figure out why MEA cannot continue charging its customers in LBP.
    The President approved.
    Case closed.

They agreed on more cooperation and that is what they are saying the president suggested, there is literally nothing in the statement that says they are going to proceed with payment in USD exclusively that's why you couldn't point it out when prompted to do so and instead told me I was trying too hard when all I did was read the statement YOU provided! I think you need to try harder and read it next time :p

MEA and Airlines Operating in Lebanon Will Now Accept Payment in Dollars Only
"All forms of payment will be accepted on the condition of providing the transaction in foreign currency"

The official Lebanese airline Middle East Airlines MEA announced that "starting Monday, February 17th, all airlines operating in Lebanon, including Middle East Airlines, will accept payment only in US dollars."

"All payment cards, in addition to bank cheques, will be accepted on the condition of providing the transaction in foreign currency," MEA added in their statement.

However, Lebanese Pound will be accepted in certain situations. Air Liban S.A.L., more commonly known as Middle East Airlines, emphasized that "passengers will be able to pay the overload charges and the fees for adjusting the reservation in Lebanese pounds at the Rafic Hariri International Airport."

it goes without saying that MEA is no longer competitive and is living on borrowed time under its current norms of management, flying emirates and other airlines into and out of Beirut is quite cheaper than flying our national MEA, and that is a rather red flag.

MEA's management decisions have not always been in line with the best interest of Lebanese economy. mohamad hout's interest is geared towards reporting profits on books rather on how MEA should be tied and integrated with the wider Lebanese economy. the company made its profit mostly from exploiting the preferential patriotic choice of the Lebanese expats when visiting their home country during summer vacations and holidays, that willingness of our expats to be exploited however has been gradually diminishing in recent years and no longer constitutes a viable option for the company's profitability.

avadis guidanian, the previous minister of tourism who managed to impressively boost tourism - despite the challenges we face -by appealing to new markets particularly in europe, has announced on several occasions that the results could have been better were they not hindered by MEA's refusal to lower its ticket pricing despite the fact that such discounts would bring in more money to the state and to the Lebanese economy. avadis presented that in several studies based on how much tourists spend on average in Lebanon versus the number of additional tourists such discounts would bring in. it is not surprising to find extremely low ticket prices to our regional neighbors turkey, cyprus, greece, emirates, egypt israel, sometimes even ridiculously low, like 60$ round trip to cyprus, with a pre-conditional stay of 1 week on the island, or something of the sort. muhamad el hout however is running the company differently and independently from the other Lebanese economical sectors.

now the problem MEA could possibly face as the result of our current crisis would be with connecting flights and third party agreements for charter planes, as these contracts are all in foreign currency. i am pretty certain it would have been received with more understanding, and it would have been more graceful, had MEA restricted its policy to accept payment in USD to third party flights, and separated tickets sold for flights on its owned fleet from that mix from within Lebanon, in particular when a good portion of tickets are sold abroad and these transactions are almost always in foreign currency, which means that MEA is already offsetting part of the financial crisis' impact, making their newly adopted policy strictly directed towards small Lebanese travel and tourism agencies, and Lebanese with limited income.

a decision that could easily bankrupt our travel and tourism agencies, and would have a serious and a long term impact on the tourism sector as a whole. which is yet another indication that the crisis we are facing is politically induced in many of its aspects, and is engineered by some parties to increase the pressure instead of easing it. ...

following measures to be taken - rent some planes ✈ to foreign companies, reduce its non necessary personal, - reduce salaries or entitlement programs- reduce the number of flights ( a lot of times the planes are not empty), privatization of some parts of the company and introducing it to the stock market selling 49 percent of its shares, reforms, raising if necessary the prices in Lebanese Lira noting MEA tickets were always higher than other companies, open a low cost options

مكتب الاعلام في رئاسة الجمهورية: الرئيس عون طلب توحيد تسعير بطاقات السفر بالليرة اللبنانية استناداً الى القوانين المرعية الاجراء

    16
    FEBRUARY
    2020

    Again
    very populist statement.
Was it based on studies ? Is the President asking them to close their doors in order to wash his hands ?

As i said, I'll wait for MEA's statement and union's reply to the President before i comment any further.

the phrasing is wrong, what we are facing is simply unchecked and unwarranted hatred. ness 7e2deh, not simply a mafia, nothing is more poisonous to a society than such a poisonous hatred. nothing GMA does will be ever found to be correct, they will still manage to turn it negatively.

the three stooges on the forum are just a sample.

Does MEA cover its expenses from fuel, to maintenance to insurance to coalition memberships to airports fees and taxes to pilot training to planes and parts in national currency ?
Is the official rate of our national currency correct ?
do we know the implications of MEA charging in LBP at the official rate ?

All questions that need answers before forcing MEA to charge at the fictional LBP rate incurring severe losses and eventually shutdown and close its doors.
Let's all wait for MEA's statement we need to hear both sides of the story.
Maybe in the end the President will end up requesting a law to legitimize MEA's charging in USD.

Stop falling for populist speeches and statements.
Ask for studies instead and see if MEA can sustain itself charging in LBP in the current situation.
Unless you and Bassil want to shut it down after you failed to take it off Hariri's hands

too bad the president does not have economical advisers of your caliber on his side. probably he facilitated the agreement after discussing the issue with his jnayneti and his chef instead of economical experts.
