    Svetlina Stoyanova ~ Handel: Ariodante ~ Neue Stimmen Final


    Mezzo Soprano Svetlina Stoyanova is a soloist at the Vienna State Opera. She made her house debut as Dryade (Ariadne auf Naxos) in September 2018, she has since performed the roles of Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Roßweisße (Die Walküre), Tisbe (La Cenerentola), Lola (Cavalleria Rusticana) among others at the State Opera. She has also appeared in guest performances of the Vienna State Opera as Cherubino at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and Zerlina (Don Giovanni) at the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf.

    With Ensemble Matheus led by Maestro Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Svetlina made her role debut in semi-staged concert performances of L’Italiana in Algeri as Isabella in France.

    In 2017 Ms Stoyanova won 1st prize in the Neue Stimmen International Singing Competition. In 2016 she won 3rd Prize and highest ranked female singer in Le Grand Prix de l’Opera, after which she was invited to spend a week of recordings with the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra.

    Following her success at the Neue Stimmen competition, Svetlina got invitations by numerous houses including a new production of Le nozze di Figaro at Opéra de Nice Côte d’Azur and Anthéa Theatre where in January/February 2018 she performed her role debut of Cherubino. In the summer of 2018 she also sang the role of Rosina in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia in Bregenz Festival.

    In 2018 Ms Stoyanova graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under the tutelage of Clare Shearer with a Masters in Opera as well as a Masters and Bachelors of performance. During her studies she performed the roles; Nerone, Agrippina; Veronique, Le docteur Miracle; Mother, Mavra and others.

    Also a prolific concert singer, Svetlina recently performed solo recital in Musikverein, Vienna with pianist Stephen Hopkins; in the Wigmore Hall, London as an Independent Opera Scholar; in the International Festival Sofia Music Weeks. Svetlina has also sung in multiple Matinées at the Vienna State Opera. Ms Stoyanova has performed Angel in Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Beethoven’s Mass in C major with the orchestra of Scottish Opera in Glasgow City; Mahler’s Symphony No.4 with the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra in “Bulgaria” Hall. Svetlina sang in the opening ceremony of the 2018 Bregenz Festival, Dvořák’s Mass in D major. She has also performed in recitals sponsored by the organisation Live Music Now.

    Svetlina is also a recipient of the Daniel Froschauer award 2019, a Samling Artist, recipient of the Musician’s Company Award Silver Medal and of the Independent Opera Scholarship and Fellowship.

    Born in Sofia, Bulgaria to a family of scholars, Svetlina was exposed to music from a very young age. From the age of 4 she performed on stage in a musical group for children, sang on the radio and television and regularly attended opera and ballet. Although not yet interested in pursuing a career as a classical singer, Svetlina’s childhood dream was to “sing on the television”.

    At the age of 9, Svetlina joined the Children’s Choir of the Bulgarian National Radio with the foremost musical academic in Bulgaria Hristo Nedyalkov where she sang for 9 years. As the main soloist of the choir she embarked on concert tours around many European and Asian countries. She has sung for the Japanese Crown Prince, the President of Bulgaria, The Swiss Countess Esther de Pommery and many other influential people.
