Operation Arsal - Part2 - The Lebanese Army Vs ISIS

Why was a deal struck with ISIS?

  • The LAF didnt want to lose more men

  • The govt didnt want to put those guys in Lebanese prisons, fearing for the prisons safety

  • Other countries wanted this deal

  • This was ISIS condition to tell us where they buried the soldiers

  • I dont know

Jabhat Al Nusra has now been defeated and uprooted.
The next phase of the battle will be to fight and defeat ISIS
And as we know by now, this next phase, is the mission of the Lebanese Army.
Preparations are under way and the Lebanese Army will be deciding hour Zero.

This thread will be dedicated for news, updates and discussions related to that matter.

God bless the Lebanese Army.

There is nothing "official"...And there are never certainties in this country...This is Lebanon after all.
But it is pretty clear by now that while the Resistance would assist from its positions and watch the LA's back, the one who will be advancing on the ground shall be the Lebanese Armed Forces.

    Pretty sure with US support; US will use Ryak and Hamat airport as bases in Middle East and all of this will be connected to Gaz and Oil delimitation zones with Israeli with expected contracts to US companies;
Trump the Crusader was happy for this plus fighting Isis ; balancing HA plus refugees not going to the West

Are they also going to tell ISIS from which side they will attack and what time?
Don't they learn Sun Tzu in the army?

"In conflict, direct confrontation will lead to engagement and surprise will lead to victory.

Those who are skilled in producing surprises will win. Such tacticians are as versatile as the changes in haven and earth."

Why tell ISIS that they will attack them...They should have left it bogus whether HA will attack of Army and then surprise them, there is no point in revealing tactics.

I am willing to say that they are playing a fast one on the public opinion here, more specifically the anti-HA crowd. Let HA start it out and cry foul that it is the army's role, then let the army finish it off at the roaring applause of the anti-HA crowd who would have objeected to the army operation otherwise.

BEIRUT: The Lebanese Army has taken up positions in the Bekaa Valley towns of Al-Qaa and Ras Baalbeck, ahead of a potential battle with Daesh (ISIS), a security source told The Daily Star Thursday.

“The Army wants to know the exact fate of the nine missing soldiers,” the source said, adding, “if not, the Army will raid the Daesh posts and initiate an all-out battle.”

Militants belonging to Daesh and Jabhat Fatah al-Sham – formerly known as the Nusra Front – briefly overran the northeast border town of Arsal in August 2014, capturing more than 30 soldiers and policemen.

Most of those taken have since been released, but the extremists reportedly killed several of them and nine Army personnel are still missing, presumed to remain in captivity.

Hezbollah and Jabhat Fatah al-Sham have been engaged in a nearly weeklong battle on the outskirts of Arsal, following a speech from Hezbollah’s leader on July 11, which said the militants in the area pose a threat to the safety of Lebanon.

Throughout the clashes, the Lebanese Army has taken a mostly defensive stance preventing any militants, fleeing Hezbollah attacks, from entering Arsal or other surrounding towns. The militants have tried to use refugee camps as hideouts since the outbreak of the Syrian war with the Army most recently raiding camps in north Lebanon.

About time LAF. Stop this politics and go and defend our lands.

You can volunteer to go to the fronts and show us how sovereignty is kept. Take that Hezbollah!
That is not my job is it []. Our LAF get paid to do this service. They chose their job not I. Cheers for your comments though.

This is also what I asked in the other thread. Makes no sense. Unless it is itself a deceiful tactic.

Even though losing soldiers is inevitable, and sad on so many levels, that still doesnt mean that the army of a sovereign country should not intervene when it has a foreign (or local) force occupying its lands.
What is the army for then? Why do we invest in it, train soldiers, and even bother?

Having the army engaged against isis, and win, is much better for the army than having HA do all the job.
