almost every expat deposited his/her money in Lebanese banks, they "evaporated" !
Oh on a side note, most people who seek offshore accounts have the intention to evade taxes, this is why it is called "SAFE
HEAVEN", hence the word "SAFE" and from what the sunshine or UV Rays ? ,,,, it is safe from taxation.!!

Ok, but why did they deposit their money in Lebanon? Because of the high interest rates. High interest rates =high risk. Halla2 i am not saying it is their fault akid. "Lira b2alf kheir" keno ytamno, but the numbers said otherwise. As for offshore accounts, yes most people do it to evade taxes. Similar to the thousands of offshore companies in lebanon. They do it to evade taxes, paying daman etc It is unethical but not illegal and common practice. Why dp you think most sportsmen/women live in Monaco. Because they do not pay taxes.

Indeed the part of investing with high yeild is coupled with risks .
Some ppl have no ethics and they do not care using the law (legality) to their advantages and selfish intentions.
Would you do something not illegal while you know it is unethical ?

The big problem is that while el 3arsa Salameh was asking the Lebanese people to deposit money in Lebanon and that Lebanon is safe and while he was hiding reports from IMF and lobbying them not to release them saying that Lebanon is on the verge of collapse (check le temps the swiss paper yesterday) he was siphoning money and hiding it offshore.
This is the problem, it is another damning evidence against Salameh. What I don't understand is why the politicians including tayyar are still protecting him and why the people whose money disapperead have not stormed his residence to hang him by the balls on se7et el nejmeh.

As long as Gebran Bassil still protects Salameh his credibilty still goes down the drain, wait until Aoun dies Tayyar will become like Kataeb... Nobody ever like Tayyar because Bassil is the leader, Tayyar is Aoun, most Lebanese who support tayyar are Aounists, not orange Tayyarists. They associate with the days of 1989 and the idea of stopping Militias from plundering, liberation from foreing forces, Lebanism rather than sectarianism, and the return of law and order and rooting out corruption that's why they like Aoun. Bassil brought back Sectarianism, he is hand in hand working with those who are corrupt and worked with the Syrians and is not showing that he is doing any effort to remove Salameh, in fact when he was asked he said we do not need to look at the past we need to look at the future as if he is hiding something. There is a reason why young people do not like Tayyar, they do not know 1989 Aoun, they see him as an old man doing but empty speeches and they see Bassil as another politician.

i am curious to know, how you came to the conclusion that bassil is protecting salemeh?
in particular when bassil and tayyar are the only party going after salemeh. you need to revisit your premises. you can also rest assured that whoever is circulating these rumors, does not have your best interest in mind.

Information Minister Melhem Riachi said Tuesday’s decision to renew Salameh’s term was unanimous.
When Bassil was asked later after the collapse why he is not asking for the removal, he said halla2 badna netkataf to solve the problem...
But now that elections are on the door, he's tweeting differently, the train is gone.... too late now they renewed to him, all his ministers (tayyar and the president ministers)
Aoun after being elected suggested during a 2017 cabinet session that the BDL governor’s mandate be renewed as part of the presidential compromise he had reached with Hariri prior to being elected president. Whoever thought that getting to power dealing with the corrupt will help that person remove the corrupt could not be more mistaken... Nobody will sign on his own execution, not Berri, not Hariri and not Jumblatt, instead of removing them those who dealt with them are now seen as sleeping with them which is not far from the truth... that is not how things happened. there was an impossibility to change riad salemeh, not because aoun wanted him, but because it was impossible to get the different political parties to agree on a replacement if he was decommissioned. the choice was either to renew for salemeh or keep the position vacant and have his first deputy, a birri subordinate, carry out his duties.
all attempts to replace salemeh came back as futile, a campaign was also launched to market salemeh as the pillar holding the economy from collapse.

There was a serious attempt to replace him during the Diab cabinet but only HA pushed for it.
Moreover, it's not about replacing Salemeh, it's about who will you replace him with? The alleged FPM replacement, now has a nice position in MTC, wasn't top quality at all.

i would rather stick to facts. FPM is the only party trying to get salemeh replaced. even today. but replacing salameh is something that requires consensus. we simply don't have the numbers to do so. meanwhile it is not only salemeh and everyone else behind him we are facing, but mainly it is people like you we have to keep arguing with day in day out. you want salemeh replaced? stop bickering with us and start bickering with him.

Same old story, if you are against somebody you don't vote unanimously to keep him, at least you vote against it. Same thing for voting for Berri as speaker back then.
I clearly said in my message before that people will see you as sleeping with the corrupt when you don't act against the corrupt. Aoun back in 1989 said the world can crush but cannot take my signature, and indeed that why people liked him. Now him and Bassil are distributing signatures left and right. Aoun is able to block a government formation for a year because wazir yamin and wazir shmel and he still has in him some 1989 left, he did not sign on the government blindly because he deemed it important not to give them what they wanted, yet in Salemeh case, they even voted to keep him. Of course unanimously means that the others also signed on keeping him and I am not exhonorating zo3ran el solta or the international world from wanting and keeping salameh. But because Aoun is the one I hold to high standards I blame him for not doing the right thing and voting for Salemeh, the others kellon ma bi 3al2ou 3a sobbati. But seeing Aoun blend with the others is disappointing to say the least.

we win some battles and we lose some other battles. keep in mind that back in 2017 no one really had any suspicions how rotten the central bank and the state of our banks was, neither the president nor our parliamentary block was able to get any significant reports from salemeh, and salemeh himself was conveying wrong numbers to the presidents always assuring him that everything was fine in the central bank, at a time when salemeh was getting one international prize after the next, being hailed as one of the best central banks governors in the world, all while maintaining a very low profile internally.
when pressured, salemeh's report to the president was three A4 papers, hand written.
but even with all the false reports, FPM was the only party seeking to change salemeh before his reappointment. if you look into the archives, i am quite certain some of the very people accusing FPM of renewing for salemeh were defending salemeh back then and claiming that bassil wants to put his hand over BDL and control everything in the state.
so my advise to you is not to get carried away by your judgment, both the president and bassil are good people, well intentioned, and every little step they take requires a huge battle against almost everyone else.

there is no need for that. i am no longer trying to prove anything or convince people of anything. you believe whatever you want to believe.
back then 90% of the Lebanese people were under the impression that riad salemeh was a great asset and was doing an excellent job to safeguard the economy, including myself. the praise he continuously got from all economical experts in that period and the international prizes he was collecting only consolidated that perception.
the president in the meanwhile, aware of the stale state of the Lebanese economics but unaware of the catastrophic gap forming in BDL numbers, was working on the implementation of the mckinsey plan and the road to economic recovery, a plan that was met with mockery by the media, the influencers, and the political parties alike, it became a trend, to the point of attacking the minister for wasting the 1.5 million USD on the consultancy fees when our economy was working "just fine". do you see anyone going back to give the president credit for that?
when people make up their minds everything that follows is simply a matter of validating the position they have already adopted, and you can rest assured there are argument to cover all angles, the pros and the cons. that said, i personally am no longer trying to convince people of anything, to me now it is more about people getting what they deserve and facing the well deserved consequences of their actions and their choices. if they are convinced that GMA and bassil are at fault, then by all means, let them invest their future and that of their families in the alternatives, sami, ja3ja3, tony franjieyeh, nehmat frem, farid el khazen, paula yaakoubian, ghada eid, jad dagher, etc...

Voting for his continued tenure was a mistake keef ma baramta. If they didn’t want him for the principle and if they did want him then that’s where the mistake was.
