Share your proposals to fix the Lebanese economy...

Following up on my earlier post... Lebanon's tourism industry is really suffering now. (see article)

Even in Lebanon's peak tourism year of 2010, there were only 2.16 million tourism arrivals.
If Lebanon admitted third-country tourists from Israel, and just 10% of them visited Lebanon, that would be 450,000 people and a palpable boost for Lebanon's economy.

I'm not Lebanese, but just by observing Lebanon and knowing of Lebanon's economic condition and what it's strengths are, I think that some change in the relationship with Israel would be beneficial.

I understand that there is NO WAY Lebanon is going to sign a peace treaty with Israel like Jordan and Egypt did, but the intensity of Lebanon's boycott of Israel does more proportional harm to Lebanon than it does to Israel.

I know that allowing Israelis to visit* or trading with Israel is unthinkable, but I think it would behoove Lebanon to allow third-nation visitors in who have already visited Israel and not bar anyone from entry who has evidence of an Israeli visit.

In 2019, Israel received over 4.5 million tourists. I have to assume that a number of those tourists would combine a trip to Lebanon with Israel if they could do so legally. I realize it's an unscientific sample, but if you follow TripAdvisor, it's really interesting how frequently people ask how they can visit Lebanon and Israel, and those are the people too lazy to Google the answer to that question.

Although a cease-fire or loosening of the boycott wouldn't produce the benefits of a full peace, at least it would ease tensions and perhaps help Lebanon attract more foreign investment.

I disagree that Israel doesn't want peace with Lebanon. Israel's territorial disagreement with Lebanon is not significant. The LAF and IDF already talk on a frequent basis through UNIFIL. Israel was willing to talk about the maritime and land borders, though that negotiation has been delayed by both countries' governing crises. The reason Israeli officials don't often talk about a dream of peace with Lebanon is because they know that Lebanon doesn't want it and right now they must focus on deterring Hezbollah.

*I know that there are already some exceptions, like for Christians who get special Palestinian travel documents.

Your input is valuable, however, blaming the deterioration of the Lebanese tourism sector on bad relationship with israel is not the main factor in reality.
maybe a secondary factor.

The main problem is that the revenues of Lebanese tourism, were not invested in making the country a better tourist attraction, in fact the money was simply stolen
and put in corrupt politicians private bank accounts OUTSIDE Lebanon.

The second problem is Lebanon's stupid and handicapped sectarian political system that led to constant security risks forbidding tourists from choosing
Lebanon as a main destination over israel.

The third problem is that some retards in Lebanon do not put themselves in the tourists shoes when addressing tourism. In this time of world economic crisis, tourists (especially 16 - 20 year old TEENAGERS) would prefer a tourism bundle that includes (Syria+Lebanon+occupied Palestine(now israel)+Jordan) at a special
price .. so taking off "Lebanon" out of that bundle under the excuse of "establishing relations with israel" is a blow to Lebanon's tourist attraction.
We all know that israel doesn't need tourists who were in israel and coming to Lebanon as their next tourist attraction to be able to infiltrate Lebanese security. A simple American or NATO country passport flying straight to Lebanon is sufficient for that matter.

The fourth problem, is calling gulf countries to get out of Islamic regime into a Libertarian regime, this might be objected by some shallow minded members
on this forum, but if they think about it deeply, they'll know what they were preaching for, over the years has badly done to the Lebanese tourism and economy

we need to go to the root of the matter
only solution

1- kick out all mjaneseen since 1994 ( and allow them to remain if the choose to under a new and simplified immgration law, case by case they can reapply, after they pass the citizenship exam)
2- re educate the muslim citizens on citizenships and what it entails to be a valuable member of a society ( those who fails m should be kicked out)
3-all the ones who have feudal ( from all sects) titles ( sheikh, beik, afandi, emir , etc) will and their spouses, kids., ets from ever holding or running for office , political office of any nature
4-christians from MOUNT LEBANON are exempt from the citizenship exams , others arent..reason., the native of mount lebanon knows the meaning of freedom better than those christians who have been oppressed by centuries
5-druze feudal lords and families shall be bnaished from lebanon and exiled,,,,the average druze ( mount lebanon region) shall be exempt from the citizenship test

once that is done, lebanon will become a 1st CLASS nation in less than a decade

We can also cut down on judges salaries, no need for court, just send a mail to [email protected] and he'll reply with "guilty", "not guilty", "double his sentence because he's muslim".

Drastic measures in Politics are needed:
1) Go to a decentralized system with districts based on current election law or with some modifications, where each district has its own taxes collection/ monetary system and has to provide all basic services within its boundaries.
2) Each district will have local gov and local parliament
3) Each district can choose (based on local voting) if they want to have common infrastructure projects with other districts; for example building a power plant, airport...etc.
4) The commercial banks need to undergo a re-structure to suit the new decentralized system/districts
5) The national debt will be distributed among districts based on each district population number.
6) Dismantle the complete incompetent over-sized public administration of 300 K employees, and each district will have its own public admin.
7) The interest on the deposits in banks to be taken to min. international standards (1 to 3%)
8) Once the above is done there will be 100 ways to boost the economy in each district.

al shareb al ratesh wal mouyawemeen , will never agree to any of that
how will they loot. if christian areas are semi autonomous

you need to treat the main cause and that by reducing the ratesh population and foot print and the damage they cause both
socially
financially
ecologically too

I believe the decentralized system is much easier to achieve than reducing the population, and it is already mentioned in Taef, so no need for a war to achieve it.
I believe PMA must take an action (Im not sure what) that will lead at the end to a political system change.

After the imminent total collapse occurs people will be ready to accept things which they were not ready to accept it earlier.
Maybe there is no other way to change except thru a total collapse and disintegration of all state institutions

Well Shi3a should be Ok as they will get part of South, part of Beka3 and the Southern Suburb of Beirut, and they can walk in and out to Syria/Irak/ up to Iran freely.
Its Sunnites who will oppose it the most as they don't have a stronghold majority district other than the poor Tripolie and Akkar.

Yeah right. The Maronites of Mt. Lebanon should be the first to take a citizenship exam. These two-dimensional mountain people are completely clueless of the world outside them, and think Beirut is an Islamic empire that takes several years to traverse to.
