Could the latest events in Idlib be about something related to this?
But then in such scenario who will join the other alliance in Libya? Or will they stay with their current Libyan allies and make deals..

Haftar after all is being supported by France, UAE, Saudis, Egypt and even by Russia..

So different kind of alliances.. compared to other countries like Syria..
My question is why is Russia still betting on Haftar when he is clearly supported by the West.. after washing their hands from GNA/Libya?

Looking at the EEZ agreement borders between Cyprus and Egypt I would assume someone Fcked Egypt over this deal.
How come Cyprus stretches so far down and so far from their mainland?

It's more likely foreign countries would find an agreement among them on how to share the gas before Lebanese leaders can agree among themselves who gets what. Countries compromise and find a common ground whereas every leb leader wants the whole lot to himself as his sect's right. The way I see it by the time the Lebanese leaders agree all that gas will have been extracted and what's left will be just an environmental disaster. Let Lebanon find any gas first before we can move on to the next step. So far it's all a pie in the sky.

clearly the Greek and the Turks are being unrealistic in the above posted maps if we want to speak without being biased to any side!

Here is another interesting map zoomed on Kastellorizo..

Here is an interesting look into Turkey's maritime strategy and ambitions worth looking into to understand what is going on..

What is Blue Homeland?

The Blue Homeland concept was initially brought out by Admiral Cem Gürdeniz in 2006 and became a doctrine that has been interiorized by the
people of the Republic of Turkey since 2013.

The purpose of this concept is to inculcate the maritime awareness into Turkish people and infuse the idea that one single drop of water is nothing less than one inch of soil.

We can easily say that the concept has progressed very effectively ever since which was received favourably by the Turkish people and consequently adopted as a state policy.

As the leader of Turks Atatürk said “ We must think of marine affairs as the great national ideal of Turks and achieve it in a short span of time."
Undoubtedly, the greatest lesson we’ve learned in the early part of the 20th century was the absence of our Navy.

The Ottomans, who entered the 20th century without a navy due to lack of progress and maritime awareness, suffered greatly from this significant deficiency.

However, the marine is destined for the Turkishness. The Turks who settled in Anatolia in 1071 reached the capacity to establish a Navy in just 10 years and Çaka bey who laid the foundations of the Turkish Maritime will always remain a guiding light in every moment of our lives.

Turkey, having learned from her past, entered the 21st century with a powerful navy which later on became one of the most powerful navies in the Mediterranean.

Turkey, in this day and age, carries the same goals and follows in the footsteps of Barbaros who ruled the Mediterranean in the 16th century.
Turkey’s Blue Homeland concept mapping is entirely based on her exclusive economic zone which has been lawfully demarcated.
At this stage, Turkey made an EEZ agreement with TRNC and Libya. Being the architect of the agreement with Libya, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cihat Yaycı also stands up for an agreement with both Lebanon and Israel.

Greece, who uses its islands with a 165 km coastal length as a base for the EEZ agreement can’t deter Turkey from defending her rights who has one of the longest coastal lengths in the Mediterranean which is 1577 km.

Today, The Republic of Turkey is conducting activities in 3 different points in the East Mediterranean with Seismic/Drill ships for the sake of the Blue Homeland.

These ships belonging to the Republic of Turkey will continue to defend her rights and interests by working in tandem with the Turkish Naval Forces.

As I put an end to my article, I’d like to share our map once again to indicate our “Blue Homeland” borders.

Egypt's parliament approves maritime demarcation deal with Greece

Source: Xinhua| 2020-08-18 23:02:15|Editor: huaxia

CAIRO, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Egyptian parliament in a general session approved on Tuesday a deal demarcating maritime borders with Greece, state-run TV reported.

Egyptian and Greek foreign ministers have signed a maritime demarcation deal for establishing an exclusive economic zone between the two countries on Aug. 6.

"The deal copes with Egypt's legal and constitutional systems," according to the report.

It added that the deal will partially determine the maritime borders between the two counties in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea and further consultations between them will be run on completing the demarcation process.

The report added that in case any of the two parties seek to sign an economic zone deal with a third country sharing the maritime borders with the two countries, it shall inform the other party ahead of signing any deals.

"If natural resources, including hydrocarbons, are found in the economic zone area, a new deal should be initiated on how to utilize these resources. Any related disputes should be settled via diplomatic ways," the report read.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said earlier that the deal allows both Egypt and Greece to maximize the use of available resources in the exclusive economic zone between them, particularly the potential oil and gas reserves.

However, the deal caused tensions between Greece and Turkey as it hit another maritime border agreement in the Mediterranean Sea between the governments of Turkey and Libya in Tripoli in 2019.

Some good news for turkey if true ..

Turkey Finds Energy in Black Sea as Erdogan Vows a New Era

Turkey reportedly makes natural gas discovery in Black Sea
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said he will make an announcement on Friday that will usher in 'a new era' for the country

Turkey is reported to have discovered an energy resource, likely natural gas, in the Black Sea, several news agencies reported on Wednesday.

A Turkish official confirmed that an energy source had been discovered but declined to elaborate.

Meanwhile, a Bloomberg report, citing two people with knowledge of the matter, said the discovery was made in the Black Sea.

A Haberturk daily report said that Turkey's Fatih-1 drilling ship discovered gas in two separate locations, near the Danube river and in the Kiyikoy region along Thrace's shores.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said earlier on Wednesday that he would announce "very good" news on Friday which would usher in "a new era" for the country.

"If I announce it now, the excitement would disappear," he said.

Following Erdogan's remarks, shares in the refinery company Tupras and petrochemical manufacturer Petkim jumped significantly, triggering speculation that Erdogan would announce the discovery of an oil or gas reserve.

Timothy Ash, a strategist at BlueBay Asset Management in London, said while "there have been gas discoveries in the Black Sea before - but of a limited scale - given its $35-50bn annual energy import bill, Turkey needs something big to be a game changer."

In June, Turkish Energy Minister Fatih Donmez said drilling activities would be focusing in areas off the coast of Zonguldak, some 270km north of Ankara.

"The experts from Turkish petroleum said seismic data from the region called Tuna-1 is promising," he said at the time.

Turkey has been exploring for energy resources in the Black Sea for several years. Ankara doesn't have any significant carbon energy resources, and is a net energy importer.
