The military official said that the force stationed in Italy was put on alert as a step within a series of military measures to protect American interests in the Middle East region. He explained that the US Department of Defense might send between 130 and 700 soldiers to Beirut.

----

How does this work in international relations? Is it normal for a country to send its military to protect their embassies?
And with the news that the US is planing to expand the embassy aren't they exceeding their limits by occupying huge area of lands and is it really an embassy anymore ?

Aren't there any limits to what they can't and can do? Would they allow other countries to behave in the same manners inside the US?
How far can they go with it?

Well, when you have everybody in the region trying to blow you up, precautions are necessary- especially after what happened in Benghazi.

38 acres is not that big for an embassy. The largest is 100s.
There are schools in Lebanon bigger than that.

What's the biggest school in Lebanon speaking in area?

And yes it is big.. the question is why they need such big embassies around the world?

I'm not sure what the biggest school is...

I was in Sabis (international school of Choueifat) which was around 24 acres at least. (Though it's a snobby evil school. I left it and found Christ).

Embassies have a lot of employees. They need to be big. it's a good thing for Lebanon as we rely on immigration and international politics.
