I usually don't feel a thing for the first two weeks.
But then get very depressed and sleep most of the time. And avoid seeing friends or family more than I usually do.
I don't apply to the EI (even though they tax me), because it's socialism and I dislike the process.
I stop ordering food and start cooking my own meals to keep my budget low.
I also apply every few days and research each company that wants to interview me. Mostly to refuse those that are either too technical or have some annoying HR female that has no idea what she's doing.
It usually takes me 2 - 4 weeks to secure a new job / contract.
I recently signed a 6 month one and so should be good till April.
so the career guidance is poor . you should fire on the gov bcz they dont have a strategy ur lucky bcz u do it in 2 -4 weeks!
what country u live in?

my other question where u find them!
I have absolutely no idea. We don't have the same professional areas of expertise or interest, we don't operate in the same market. I am talking about my experience. The industry in which you want to work, the market in which you want to work are likely to have very different practices. The key thing to remember is that no one hires you to do you a favor. They either have a need (or you convince them of the need) or they don't.
Separately (and that may be what you are referring to), the institution may have a need you can help address but you're not getting access to the right decision makers / are blocked by people who may feel threatened by you (But now I'm inferring from what you are saying). Unfortunately there is no magical way to solve that.

    Canada.
Career guidance here for the unemployed is... Go on a computer around bunch of homeless people and find any job to do (mostly construction jobs as you can bleed the hour).
I had to figure out on my own how to stay in my software dev profession and get good jobs.

There are no media or journalist professional associations that you can join and attend their conferences? That's how you network with professionals.

for other people who are trying to change career or want help in managing the interview path, motivation, inspiration..

a friend if mine put together this association called โ€œLIBROโ€ to help lebanese and arab youth empower themselves and face the job market in a more healthy way.

you may want to take a look at this

all in all exercising and readind/develloping more skills is always helpful and a good long term investment
Libro.... Good idea to write abt and discover
